Hilarious New Production By Balbriggan Dramatic Society

04 March 2014 05:20:27 North County Leader

This year, Balbriggan Dramatic Society will be holding their annual production, “Canaries” in the Bracken Court Hotel, from Wednesday, 5th March through to Saturday, 8th March. ‘Canaries’ by Bernard Farrell is set in the 1980’s and is about a group of couples and characters who are away for a break in the Canary Islands and looking forward to plenty of socialising and partying, but things don’t always go to plan due to secrets, assumptions and lots of crossed wires. Most of the holidaymakers are from Dublin. Marie and Tommy, a couple from Ringsend who are accompanied by her retired father who is always out to make a buck. Marie will do anything to fit in with the colourful characters, Richard and Jane from Portmarnock that like to show all the friends how to party. Also in the group is Fergus, a young man from Dublin who is accompanied by his very new love interest, Madelene. Gunther and Erica, a loved up couple from Germany and Gunther takes every opportunity to stir things up in the keeping up with the Jones’s situation. The scene is set in a quirky bar just off the beach run by the smooth talking, Carlos who, between shifts at the bar, has the responsibility of looking after his somewhat determined Granny and Samantha, the holiday rep who loves to arrive with news of complications and disappointment but always delivered with a smile. Tickets available from Balbriggan Dramatic society and from the reception in the Bracken Court Hotel, Balbriggan. They are E10.00 each or two for E15.00 and the show starts at 8:30pm.
